Biography//

 

Eduardo Esteban Charpentier De Castro , Ph.D, is a Panamanian musician, flutist , teacher, researcher , cultural manager , composer and conductor of classical music. He was also awarded the Order of Vasco Núñez de Balboa in degree of Grand Officer by the Panama goverment. For his merits he is a member of the National Association of Composers and Conductors of New York (NAACC today NACUSA) . Also the State Department of the United States awarded the United State Goverment Research Professor Grant, State Department "Fellowship" for the development of Inter-American Cultural Relations and joined the United States American Federation of Musicians (AFM). He was born on March 12, 1927 . He began studying music at home with his father and musician maestro Eduardo Charpentier Herrera. He continues his studies at the Panama National Conservatory of Music and Declamation, obtaining the Music Theory, Harmony and Flute degree. Because of its great academic and artistic excellence is awarded a scholarship by the government of Panama to travel to the U.S. and join the Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) of Roosovelt University under the teaching of professors Karel Boleslav Jira , Hans Tischler, Florian Mueller, Joseh Creanza and Rene Rateau. He also participates as freshman summer still recognized institution in artistic excellence, Vermont Marlboro Music where he worked with profesors of American music as Rudolf Serkin pianist , flutist Marcel Moyse and violinist Adolf Busch, among other. Later he enters to the Eastman School of Music , University of Rochester, New York, where under the tutelage of composers and directors such as teachers Eugene Selhorst and Joseph Mariano gets titles Bachellor of Music and Master of Music, then traveled to Europe to perfect his studies at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris (CNSMDP) , where he received tutoring from teachers, composers and conductors such as Eugene Bigot and Marcel Dupre, and receive Conducting Specialization . Finally obtained from Columbia Pacific University in San Rafael, California the degree of Doctor of Philosophy with a major in Music and Education. Returned to Panama where from September 1966 held the position of Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra , until June 1988. In addition , as a professor at the University of Panama , founded the Music Department in 1972 and the Chamber Orchestra in 1992. In international tour with the Symphonic Orchestra of Panama , conducted concerts in Central America in countries like Costa Rica , Nicaragua and Guatemala , and as a guest conductor he has performed in Costa Rica , Colombia , Mexico and the United States . He is currently director of the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Panama , since he has held since March 2004.
